What Finnish travellers paid in their Top 10 domestic destinations
Helsinki

Helsinki the highest priced and most popular destination for domestic travellers, Joensuu the best value. Only €25 separated the two destinations.

Helsinki had an excellent 1st half of 2017 in terms of visitor numbers with an almost 50:50 split between domestic and international travellers. Its average rose 4%.

Finland saw rising domestic and inbound visitor numbers in 2017. That meant more and more Finns decided to stay in their own country, although they did find they were paying more in 7 of the Top 10 domestic destinations. In the country, domestic guests paid 3% more than in 2016 on average.

What international travellers paid in their Top 10 Finnish destinations
Rovaniemi

International visitors to Finland paid an average of 6% more per room night than in 2016.

Finland welcomed guests predominantly from Russia, Germany and Sweden, with China the fastest growing market.

Kittila saw an 8% rise in its average and was where international travellers paid the highest price in the Top 10, and Rovaniemi recorded the highest average price increase of 11%.

Vaasa had both the lowest average paid and the highest decrease (-6%) in the Top 10 list.

Helsinki was, probably predictably, the most popular Finnish destination for international travellers. It also saw a rise in price in 2017, as the capital’s hotels had an occupancy rate approaching 80% for the first 11 months of the year.
