Luxury for less
Finnish travellers paid significantly less to stay in 4-star and 5-star accommodation across multiple regions in 2016 for a variety of reasons.
- Turkey suffered political and security instability during the year, which deterred many visitors, and average prices in Istanbul and Alanya fell accordingly in both categories.
- Miami was another with large decreases, as the city was impacted by a decrease in Brazilian travellers in particular.
- Dubai’s drop at the 4-star level could be explained in part by a continually growing room supply which affected occupancy levels.
- 5-star averages in London and Manchester also dropped, due in large part to the fall in value of the Pound against most major currencies, particularly in the second half of the year following the Brexit vote.
